Help put solar panels on a church in Haiti!

The Eglise Evangelique le Rocher D’ Horeb Church in Cabaret, Haiti needs our help to bring music back into their Sunday services.

Eglise Evangelique le Rocher D’ Horeb Church in Haiti

For years, music has been a big part of the Church. They have an amplifier, speakers, and microphones for the church choir, along with many instruments such as keyboards, bass, and guitar. Every Sunday people gather to pray and sing together. The sound equipment also enables the pastor to be heard. While there is no utility power in Cabaret (like most of Haiti), the Church has managed to power the equipment with a generator fueled by gasoline. In addition to the music, the generator provides lights and fans during the services.

However, the political and economic situation in Haiti has been very difficult lately. The price of gasoline has skyrocketed and in many places it is rationed or unavailable. Even when they can get a little gas for the service, the generator is old and unreliable. So for the last several months, there has been limited or no amplified voice, music, lights, or fans in the Church.

Arthur Guillaume is a member of the Church and he has worked with the Solar SEED Project before, helping to maintain the solar system we installed on a medical clinic in Desab. He reached out to us to see if we would be interested in helping his Church to have lights, fans, and music again, with a solar energy system.

Luckily, from a technical and financial standpoint, this will be easy to do. Since they only have services one day per week, we have the other 6 days to recharge the batteries. That means we need fewer solar panels and the cost of the system will be less. We have designed a system based on their needs and estimate the cost to be just around $2,000. And the great news is that Arthur has experience doing electrical and solar work, so we can make this happen without sending anyone down there to install the system.

Since the Solar SEED Project is an educational (non-religious) organization, we do not directly fund projects for religious organizations. So for this project, we cannot directly collect funds that are tax deductible. However, SEED is happy to be donating our time and expertise in designing the system and helping coordinate the effort to obtain the hardware needed.
